Cut and whack...

..getting the overgrown green back.

Slowly I am getting my yard uncovered. Finding fence pickets buried in the leaf litter. Even the fence itself falling, or being pushed over by the Lilacs. Many years of yard neglect.

The red pickets, I just put them up yesterday. They are a placeholder until next spring when the whole fence will be replaced.

Whoa, lookie that...

This is the next piece to get a yardcut.

Stay tuned, more pics to come. ..

(And leave me a comment..won'tcha...)

Now it is time for the Tree...

This post will have mostly pictures. I will be uploading about 15 photos. Captions will be short.

The story goes something like this: I am a man. You catch a fish, I want to catch a bigger fish. Get the point?
A dear friend of mine had a tree taken down from inside her yard. Showed all the pictures of the family as relatives gathered to cut it down. It was a big tree.

My tree was bigger
My cousin cut it down with a 30-ton crane and a man on a hook. No wimpy chain saws and the tree falling down and smashing anything it its way. Cousin Cutter put a man into the tree top and cut the tree out in four sections. The tree had been topped about 35 years ago and it grew two tops. Twin 35 foot tops. These were taken out one at a time. Each weighed about 2500 lbs. Then the middle section was taken out. It weighed 7200 lbs. Finally the bottom section was taken out and it weighed 7000 lbs. Total weight a little over 19,200 lbs. Almost 100 feet tall and 47 inches across the butt.

As each section was cut it was lifted up and over the house and laid onto the lot next door. The whole neighborhood came to watch. It was quite a show.
Here is Cousin Cutter..

Here is the 30-ton crane

Eddie riding the hook into the tree top..

First top flyin' over the house..

Middle section, going up....

Crane jack lifting off the ground support...whoa ! ! !

Cutting the bottom section of the tree...

Up, Up and away...

Lay'er down easy boys...

All that's left... and look at how level Eddie cut that thing, amazing...

Sweet dreams old Cedar Tree, I've known you since 1962 and it is sorta sad to see you go.

No more interfering with the fireplace chimney and electric lines.
All done.

Life...

Is different here. A '62 Chev pickup is a regular sight, so is a '71 Ford. Paint jobs are torn up. This is a town of dirt. Dirt driveways, like mine. Paved road stops in front of the house and a dirt road connects it to the next block. County road sigh says, 'END'. This is Redneck country.

Rednecks have guns. This is an '84 Dodge.

I'm fitting right in...

And don't forget, he cooks...

Next step...

And now for something entirely different. A Flat Apple Pie.

First it was the plums. Making some jelly to put in the pantry. Now, I am really getting messy and into the pie dough.

What? You don't think I can make a pie...or pie crust ! !

Of course I can.

Flour, egg, milk, table with flour on it.

Now skip ahead to the finish.

This is made in a half-sheet baking pan. Something like 9 x 14.

The man is a genius. Not only good looking, but he can cook too.

Thank you, thank you very much.... (in my very best Elvis voice..)

More info...

Take a look at these. The cedar tree grows them by the millions and drops them all over. A real mess.

Get ready...

Yeah, get ready. Look at this big old tree in my front yard. A cedar tree well over 100 years old. It has branches so big they hang over the house and interfere with the fireplace chimney. Fire dept checks regularly and makes us keep the roof swept off. If you know cedar trees, you know all the little seed buds they make by the millions and drop on the roof, the lawn and your head. A nuisance and fire hazard on the roof.

About 60" around and 100 feet tall.

The branches span 30 feet across the yard. This tree is absolutely huge.

And it is only one of four in the yard. There are three more almost identical in the back yard.

I live in a forest, right on the edge of town.

Not much...

Little rain Monday morning, almost got the deck wet...

Outside the fence..

Inside the fence.

All this is hiding me from the street.
This is the best pic so far of the front. Notice I have started on the landscaping. The red fence is newly painted and I have the pickets lined up in the driveway and they will get put back on the fence shortly.

There will be a work stoppage for awhile. While working on the picket fence, I hurt my shoulder and now feel like the one armed man. This whole yard has been neglected for many years. So plenty of work to do.

In the corner by the orange paper box is a black walnut tree. Further to the right are two apple trees. Some sort of yellow delicious. In the back there is another apple tree also. Don't know what kind, but good for pie and applesauce. My sister has two apple trees and a plum tree. So have been eating apple pies and fresh applesauce already. This week-end we will be making plum jelly.

Dinner time...more later.

Multiplicity of...

When you pack up you often find more than you thought you had. Or when you get there you find multiple stuff. How about some examples.

Two barrels. Still here after almost 40+ years. My dad originally had them full of gas for the car and pickup.

Got dinner? I'll cook.

Whats next... oh, tools. Yup got lots of tools.

Got ice? I'll pack it for you. What color?

Here fishy, here fishy...

Yes I have the boat too...

Is there a theme here? Ice, fish poles, gas, boat, pots to cook the fish.

What about the tools?

Oh, I had to build the wall rack for the cookware.

Many of my favorite things.

New...

Well, it is always something new. I finally got signed up for the ads on my blog. Anything to make a buck. At the current rate of my readers, it may take awhile.

It looked like spam, written like spam and deleted like spam. Although I do have word verification turned on. Humm.. if you know me, give me a clue, otherwise I am good at delete.
More pictures? Ok, le'see what I can find.

Had to make my entertainment center for the TV and home theater.

Painting.

Now it is ready for the electronics.

Finished, with TV set up.
I have had to make lots of furniture for the house.
